Yes You Can! How To Write A Report Or E-course
In my article about offering bonuses, I suggested writing your own report as one possible bonus. You could also write a report or ecourse as a stand-alone product. You may find the very thought of writing these intimidating, so I’ll help you get started.
I’m assuming you are working with a website or product in a well-defined niche area, one in which you are at least somewhat knowledgeable. I’ll also assume you have been writing web copy, articles and/or sales letters. You have already generated a lot of information.
Everything you intend to write always starts with what you know, and the easiest way to start with that blank page is to make a list. Then make a list of what you already know about your topic. Do it quickly; It should be easy because you can only write the titles of the articles you have already written.
I'll talk about writing a report, but the only difference between this and an e-course is that an e-course is a step-by-step process. If your information lends itself to that format, use it instead of the report, which simply provides information; a course guides the user through the steps of the action.
I'll use my favorite golden retriever example. You have decided to write a report on how to find the right puppy. He has previously written articles on puppy farms, SPCA and other animal shelters, pet shops and breeders. What did he not write about? Maybe it's unknown owner announcements, golden retriever rescue championships, and purebred versus thoroughbred purchases. a mixed breed. You also haven’t written about any diseases or other physical disorders common to the breed, which will come into consideration when deciding what puppy to get. There’s your list, open to being edited, of course.
That’s what you know. The next step is to research and fill in some details. It will also look for things you have forgotten and important things you don't know should be included.
You have already written about 5 pages (your articles), you should write a report of at least 10 pages. You may want to add some pictures, graphs or diagrams, so that you can get a 15 page report, including cover, table of contents and resource page.
It's a good idea to add something to your articles you've already written, so start your research there. You can find a photo of a puppy mill and someone else's article that you can add a reference to, giving the author full credit. You can add links to the SPCA and rescue leagues and call a friend who works at a reputable pet shop to ask a few questions. Quotes from experts are also valuable additions, as are the results of new research or news articles.
Then address each of the additional topics one at a time. Inevitably, reading each topic refreshes the things in your memory that you already know. Write it down quickly. When doing final editing and writing, it helps to have as many of your own words as possible.
Great, you've finished your report theme, but it's all in vain if you don't have some structural elements in place as well. It uses a lot of white space, this makes the reader's eye rest. Choose an attractive font that is also easy to read. So focus on what I call interest getters. You can have the coolest report on the planet, but if the title and cover aren't provocative, creative, intriguing, or eye-catching, no one will download and read it.
Also, the chapter titles, to read in the summary, should be attractive. And finally, assuming somewhere in the report you're promoting yourself, your website, your newsletter, your e-book, some action you want your reader to take ... aggressively promote. Ask yourself, why would anyone feel like they HAVE to click on your link? Do this. With planning, research and creativity, your relationship can make you a trusted writer, expert, and source of information, so do it carefully and spread it. Whether you gift it yourself, use it as a bonus or sell it, you will be amazed at how it improves your online presence and ultimately your bottom line.
