It allows you to build an audience and generate interest in your blog. It allows you to focus on your content and not on the internal maintenance of the blog. The best advantage of starting with a free service is that if your blog is unsuccessful, you don't lose money or keep your account. The best thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, the last entry being displayed first. When your blog traffic grows enormously and you are ready to upgrade to your domain, you can simply make your latest blog post your "transfer" announcement. Simply add a final entry indicating that your blog has been "moved" and enter the new blog URL. Which brings visitors to your new blogging site, keeping your following, without major inconvenience to anyone. Update when you need it ... but only when you need it!
